In The Super Bowl It Will Be Philly Cheesesteaks Vs. New England Clam Chowder

HARRISBURG, Penn.–It’s Philly cheesesteaks vs. New England clam chowder in a wager on the Super Bowl by the state CU associations that are home to the two teams competing.

On behalf of the Philadelphia Eagles, the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association is betting the cheesesteaks. On behalf of the New England Patriots, the Cooperative Credit Union Association is wagering the chowder.

“Although the Patriots are the defending champions, the Eagles, like all Pennsylvanians, never back down from a challenge — especially when they are considered the underdogs,” PCUA president and CEO Patrick Conway said in a statement. “The Eagles are hungry for their first ring and we’re hungry for some chowder.”

The Eagles have not made an appearance in the Super Bowl since 2004, and have never won the Super Bowl. Meanwhile, the Patriots have won five Super Bowls since 2002, and are the defending champions.

“The upstart Eagles have had a heck of a run this year, but I think this week the ‘Fly Eagles Fly’ don’t make it off the ground,” said CCUA President/CEO Paul Gentile in a statement. “I hope for a great game. We appreciate the fun competition with PCUA and I hope the cheesesteaks arrive hot!”

The Super Bowl will be played Sunday in Minneapolis at 6:30 ET.
