PIERRE, S.D.–Credit union-backed radio spots have been running across this state in response to an ad campaign that had earlier been run by the state’s bankers.
The Credit Union Association of the Dakotas created the ads after the South Dakota bankers began sponsoring ads attacking the credit union tax exemption.
The voiceover on the spots is provided by the CUAD’s CEO, Jeff Olson, who has a degree in mass communications with an emphasis in broadcast journalism, and who earlier worked in both radio and television as an on-air personality and news anchor/reporter at several broadcast affiliates throughout North Dakota and northern Minnesota.
“Bail outs. Bail-ins. And too big to fail. Even after top-grossing movies that tell the story of banker greed and arrogance, South Dakota banks continue to make big profits,” says Olson in the TV spot. “And once again they’re calling for a new tax on South Dakota credit unions. These new taxes would either change or eliminate credit unions altogether. A tax on credit unions is a new tax on thousands of South Dakota credit union members. Aren’t big profits enough for the banks?”
The ad can be heard in its entirety here.
