HALIFAX, Nova Scotia–Provincial Government Employees Credit Union and East Coast Credit Union have opened Atlantic Canada's first shared credit union branch.
According to the two credit unions, the new, modern branch is designed with a specific focus on enhancing the member experience with a “comfortable and welcoming open concept environment that encourages financial discussions, interaction, and community engagement.”
The new branch is centrally located in Halifax's financial district downtown.
"The move to Argyle St. allows us to address a number of our members' needs, including ample parking and an on-site ATM. The same great staff will continue to provide competitive financial products and services to our members, but in a more member-centric space," said Provincial Government Employees Credit Union's CEO, Ingrid Foshay-Murphy in a statement.
Construction of the new branch began in February 2018.
"This initiative is an exciting opportunity to conveniently serve our members in downtown Halifax where East Coast Credit Union previously didn't have a presence. This is co-operation among co-operatives in the truest sense. We're looking forward to continuing to meet our members' banking needs and welcoming new members at the Argyle Street location," said East Coast Credit Union's CEO Ken Shea.
Provincial Government Employees Credit Union has approximately $33 million in assets, while East Coast Credit Union has approximately $700 million in assets.
