In El Paso, Skimmers Help Thieves Steal $50,000

EL PASO, Texas–Approximately $50,000 has been stolen from the accounts of ATM users here, including credit union members.

The theft stems from ATM skimmers that have been place on ATMs in El Paso, according to Crime Stoppers and KVIA.

An estimated $50,000 has been swindled from unsuspecting ATM users in El Paso, according to Crime Stoppers. 

A group of suspects allegedly placed skimmers in cash machines allowing them access to personal identification numbers, and the ability to duplicate ATM cards. 

One of the suspects was recorded on security video, KVIA reported, but no arrests have been made. The crooks have been placing the skimmers on ATMs since May, according to authorities.

Among the financial institutions whose ATMs have been hit with the skimmers is GECU.
