In East Idaho, At Least 200 Members' Cards Breached

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho—The $260-million East Idaho CU reports that at least 200 of its members have had their payments cards compromised.

The development comes as both credit unions and banks in the Spokane, Wash., area are also reporting account thefts following the discovery of a card skimming operation at area gas stations. Several Florida-based men have been identified as suspects, but no arrests have been made.

In the case of East Idaho, it stated that crooks used the information to make purchases in at least three other countries and eight other states, including Idaho. The CU did not state whether the cards were credit or debit.
Affected members have had new cards issued and the CU is reimbursing members for any money stolen.

The Idaho Department of Finance says East Idaho CU does not appear to be the source of the breach but is investigating, reported Local News 8.
One member reported that she had $350 in fraudulent charges from an Idaho Walmart. Walmart stated that it is not aware of any unusual activity, New 8 reported.
