In Canada, CUs Participate In First-Ever ‘Co-opalooza’

AYLMER, Ontario–Credit unions in this province participated in the first ever “Co-opalooza” here, a combination picnic and celebration featuring cooperatives of all kinds.

The initiative was organized by Gay Lea Foods Co-operative and held outdoors at the site of the company’s Dairy Heritage Museum. Participants were invited to tour the museum, classroom and meeting spaces, stroll the trails, play team games in the fields, make ice-cream, listen to live music, and connect with friends and other co-ops.  The event included fun activities for children.

“Gay Lea is proud to introduce this beautiful, multi-use site to the community,” said Gay Lea Board Chair Steve Dolson. “We’re so looking forward to collaborating with other co-ops to create more events, programs, and trainings – as the potential for this space is limitless.”

Among the credit unions in attendance were Libro Credit Union and Meridian CU.

Other co-ops participating included Community CarShare, To Bean or Not to Bean Coffee Roasting Co-op, London Brewing Co-op, The Co-operators, Avocado Co-op, Coders Co-op, LIFE Co-op, On Co-op and more.
