In ‘Busy Week’ on Capitol Hill, State Leagues, NAFCU Caucus All In Town

WASHINGTON—Saying it will be “incredibly busy” on Capitol Hill this week, CUNA said its advocacy efforts will be getting a boost from state leagues.

“We’re welcoming multiple leagues from across the country that are making it to Washington to talk to members of Congress on important issues from interchange, the National Flood Insurance Program and others matters of importance to credit unions,” said CUNA Deputy Chief Advocacy Officer for Federal Government Affairs Jason Stverak. “We have the League of the Southeastern Credit Unions, the Dakota Credit Union Association, Montana’s Credit Unions, and the Ohio and Utah leagues.”

At the same time, NAFCU is also hosting its Congressional Caucus this week in Washington.

Stverak pointed out a government shutdown is again looming, and that CUNA will be monitoring those negotiations and staying alert for any bills that are put forward to ensure there is no insertion of language that could be detrimental to credit unions.

“Specifically, the Credit Card Competition Act,” he said, referring to the legislation strongly opposed by credit unions. “In addition, we'll be monitoring multiple hearings this week.”
