Illinois League Latest To Join Class Action Against Equifax

NAPERVILLE, Ill.–The Illinois Credit Union League has become the latest state-level CU association to join the Equifax class action lawsuit as a party plaintiff. CUNA has also filed suit against Equifax over its data breach.

The league said it did so in order to fulfill its continuing mission to protect league-member credit unions from losses caused by merchant and vendor data breaches.

“We are joining with CUNA in the fight to hold Equifax accountable for this grievous data breach impacting more that 145 million American consumers,” said Tom Kane, president/CEO of the Illinois Credit Union League.  “This is the latest of a growing number of high profile data breaches, but it will likely turn out to be the worst because of the type of sensitive information that was exposed.

Equifax was unbelievably careless by ignoring warnings to make a simple - but critical - security patch to their software and the negative effects of this breach may be felt by credit unions and their members for years to come.”

As CUToday.info reported here, in early October CUNA filed its class action lawsuit in federal court in Georgia.  The complaint filed in that case can be accessed here.  Several individual CUs have also joined the suit, while attorneys general in a number of states have also filed litigation against the Atlanta-based company.
