NAPERVILLE, Ill.–Illinois’ Division of Financial Institutions has honored the memory of former Illinois Credit Union League CEO Dan Plauda with a plaque dedication.
The posthumous dedication recognizes Plauda’s “invaluable contributions and service to the credit union community,” according to the DFI.
Tom Kane, CEO of Illinois Credit Union League, was presented with the plaque by Wade Cooper, Supervisor of Credit Unions at the Division of Financial Institutions in Springfield, Ill.
Plauda passed away on May 1, 2016. He was 69.
In addition, the Illinois Credit Union League has announced the establishment of the Illinois Credit Union Foundation’s Dan Plauda Memorial Fund to honor his memory and valued contributions. As Illinois Credit Union League CEO, Plauda chartered the Illinois Credit Union Foundation in 1978 to provide monetary assistance to credit unions for education and products, establishing it as a 501(3) charitable organization to benefit the needs of small credit unions throughout the state. Plauda served as a mentor to the Foundation board during his tenure as Illinois Credit Union League CEO.
As of 2016, the ICU Foundation disbursed more than $3 million in scholarships, community service grants, peer assistance, and emergency and natural disaster aid. A champion of the ICU Foundation, Plauda strongly believed in its efforts to assist credit unions in Illinois.
According to the Illinois league, funding the Foundation through a memorial gift is a testament to all the really great things Plauda accomplished during his tenure with the league and a fitting way to thank and honor him. These funds will be used to award grants and scholarships to credit unions in need of assistance.
“I had the honor of working with Dan for over 36 years and his commitment to the credit union movement never faltered,” said Vicki Ponzo, executive director of the Illinois Credit Union Foundation. “The Illinois Credit Union Foundation is Dan’s legacy to ensure that credit unions have the necessary resources to serve their members and communities.”
