If At First You Don’t Succeed At Stealing ATM…

Angelo Palloni

OSWEGO, N.Y.—A crook who allegedly failed in his attempt to break into one credit union apparently drove down the road to another CU only to fail at his second crime.

Angelo Palloni, 56, is accused of using his truck and a tow chain to try steal an ATM from Compass FCU. Authorities said Palloni attempted to pull the ATM out of the wall. Police have also charged Palloni with attempting to break into nearby Empower FCU.

Syracuse.com reported that police were first called to Empower after the credit union’s alarm went off. They spotted damage to a metal door to the credit union, but the CU was not breached, police said. While at Empower, police heard loud banging coming from nearby Compass FCU.

An officer responding to the noise found Palloni in a pickup in the ATM lane, attempting to pull the ATM out of the wall, police said. Syracuse.com reported that police determined that Palloni had first attempted to force his way into Empower, but was unsuccessful.

Palloni was charged with third-degree attempted burglary and third-degree criminal mischief, both felonies, for his actions at Empower. He was charged with second-degree attempted grand larceny, second-degree grand larceny and second-degree criminal mischief, all felonies, for his actions at Compass, Syracuse.com reported.
Palloni was also charged with possession of burglar tools and criminal possession of a controlled substance—police said Palloni unlawfully possessed 10 Alprazolam pills, used to treat anxiety disorders.
