NAPERVILLE, Ill.–Credit unions will be blitzing social media today as part of the #ILoveMyCreditUnion” promotion.
“Organizations across the globe will come together to highlight why members prefer belonging to a credit union…” according to the Illinois CU System, where the idea originated with CEO Tom Kane, who earlier explained the objective is to get as many people participating on social media platforms as possible, with the ultimate goal to go viral and begin trending.
The campaign urges employees and members alike to use the platforms to tell their own individual stories, for example, by posting stories and pictures of an automobile or a house a credit union made possible for a member.
All are to use the hashtag, #ILoveMyCreditUnion

Winning CUs Are Named
Meanwhile, the Illinois Credit Union League (ICUL) has announced the selection of the 10 winning credit unions and three leagues in the Giving component of the #ILoveMyCreditUnion campaign.
The Giving component for #ILoveMyCreditUnion day gave credit unions an opportunity to share their community engagement strategy to be entered into a raffle to win $1,000 to a charity of their choice, according to the league.
“Credit unions submitted the plans on www.ilovemycreditunion.social/giving,” the league explained. “All credit union leagues registered to participate in the campaign were also entered into a separate raffle of three incremental amounts totaling $22,500 to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in their area.”
The raffle drawings took place on July 25.
“We are so fortunate to work in a collaborative movement with deep roots in communities across the country,” said Kane. “Congratulations to the Maine, Indiana, and Cornerstone Leagues and the 10 credit unions that will be sharing contributions from Envisant with the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and local charities. It’s a true celebration in the spirit of credit union awareness and #ILoveMyCreditUnion day.”
The Winning Recipients
- The Maine Credit Union League will contribute to the Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center and the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital with each receiving half of a $5,000 donation
- The Indiana Credit Union League has selected Riley Hospital for Children to receive a $7,500 donation
- The Cornerstone League will receive a $10,000 donation for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in their area
