ORLANDO–The husband of a Navy Federal Credit Union employee has been arrested and charged with her murder.
Barbara Tommey, 27, was shot several times near the front doors of a branch of the credit union near the Mall of Millenia here in the early morning, according to the Orlando Police Department. Tommey was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Sylvester Ofori, 35, a Ghanaian pastor, has been arrested in the murder, according to police, and is being held at Orange County Jail without bond on a charge of first degree murder with a firearm, police said.
Orlando Police Chief Orlando Rolon said the shooting was captured on video. “You can tell that she was surprised by what was happening,” he told the Orlando Sentinel.
The Sentinel reported word of Ofori’s arrest reached a number of African news outlets, as he is a pastor at Floodgates of Heaven International Ministries, which is based in the Parramore area near Orlando. According to the Sentinel, Ofori calls himself a prophet and motivational speaker, and his Facebook page has more than 60,000 followers and the church’s page has about 5,600.
‘Other Side is EXTREME’
A day before the shooting, a photo was posted to his page with the words, “One thing ppl gotta understand about extremely kind, nice, loving people is that their other side is just as EXTREME,” the Sentinel reported.
Police have not released a motive or say whether there was a history of domestic violence of which OPD was aware, citing an active investigation, the Sentinel said.
Police said Tommey and Ofori were in the middle of a divorce and she hadn’t lived at the apartment they shared for months. The couple were married in September 2015, according to a marriage license.
