CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas–Approximately 200 members had some or all of their funds emptied out of their accounts at Rally Credit Union here as the result of what the credit union said was debit cards that had been skimmed locally.
The $4.2-bilion credit union told KRIS-6 News that members’ funds were replenished after it began to be contacted by members and was able to identify the issue.
CEO Dana Sisk told the news outlet a criminal ring, most likely using a skimmer, was able to hack the debit cards and withdraw funds.
Many members filed police reports. Local police told KRIS-6 they were aware of the situation and were pursuing leads.
Credits Issued
Sisk said that as soon as it was notified of the issue it moved to put restrictions on members’ cards, and then began to immediately issue credit to everyone who was affected.
Rally Credit Union, which was formerly Navy Army CU, has more than 220,000 members.
