PURCHASE, N.Y.—How is the health crisis changing consumers holiday shopping habits?

A new report from Mastercard suggests a more “conscious” shopper is emerging.

The report includes several findings related to consumer spending sentiment, such as:

  • 66% of respondents plan to shop in stores that have contactless payment options
  • 64% of respondents are avoiding giving cash as gifts this year
  • 55% of respondents plan to conduct a majority of their shopping online

The report also found 75% of holiday shoppers plan to be mindful of where they are shopping by favoring businesses that share their personal values, according to Mastercard. This includes:

  • 78% of shoppers prioritizing small businesses
  • 68% of shoppers prioritizing minority-owned businesses
  • 68% of shoppers prioritizing woman-owned businesses
  • 66% of shoppers prioritizing black-owned businesses
