How Much Will CUs Be Rebated? NCUA Board To Discuss Methodology At Meeting This Week

ALEXANDRIA, Va.—Credit unions will learn more about future equity distributions from the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF) Thursday when the NCUA board votes on a final methodology for distributing the refunds to CUs.

As CUToday.info has reported, NCUA said it expects this year to rebate $600-$800 million to federally insured credit unions nationwide. In October the agency merged the Temporary Corporate CU Stabilization Fund into the NCUSIF with the intent to rebate payments to credit unions reflecting assessments paid a decade earlier for costs related to five failed corporate CUs.

The NCUA has indicated the final amounts rebated to CUs will be determined in March, after year-end insured shares are reported.

Also on Thursday's agenda is a quarterly briefing on the share insurance fund. The meeting begins at 10 a.m. ET, CUToday.info will provide complete coverage.
