NEW YORK—An underground crime network is showing the masses how to commit a specific form of credit card fraud via YouTube tutorials.
Referred to as "carding," there are Facebook groups offering tutorials and mobile apps for enabling the crime, the Daily Dot reported. Carding is a form of credit card fraud in which a stolen credit card is used to charge prepaid cards. Carding typically involves the holder of the stolen card purchasing store-branded gift cards, which can then be sold to others or used to purchase other goods that can be sold for cash.
One called KiCarding Premium was recently removed from the Google Play Store, but others that are more discreet about their purpose. For example, BIN - Credit Card Checker, is an app for checking if a credit card number is legitimate, and it still exists in mobile app stores, Daily Dot said.
One video gives a demonstration of someone using stolen credit card details to buy a Canon camera online for $874.09. It has been viewed more than 16,400 times and has 190 likes, the Daily Dot reported.
