Houston Deputy Who Was Shot & Killed Was Also CU’s Security Officer

Darren Goforth

HOUSTON—Houston Deputy Sheriff Darren Goforth, who was tragically killed here while pumping gas, was also a security officer for SPCO Credit Union.

In a released statement, SCPO said, “It is with great sadness to hear of the tragic shooting and death of Sheriff Deputy Darren Goforth. Darren has served as a security officer at SPCO Credit Union for six years and has become a valued member of our family. Our entire staff and board of directors are devastated by the senseless act and will miss Darren greatly. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and two children, to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, and to all the officers who risk it all to serve and protect the greater good."

The Cornerstone CU League reported that the wife of SCPO CEO Tim Adams said in a Facebook post, “Tim received a call about 30 minutes after it happened and we watched the news last night in shock knowing it was Darren that was the fallen deputy (his name was not released until this morning). Every time I went to the credit union while he was there he would say, 'Time to tell Tim the real boss is here!'"

Goforth, 47, was a 10-year veteran of the sheriff’s office.
