WASHINGTON—The House voted 245-182 to pass a short-term government spending bill that would also provide new funding to the military through September. The bill's funding for the rest of the government would expire next month.
The measure funds the government through March 23. It now heads to the Senate for consideration.
The passage of the bill comes at a time when credit unions have been concerned all the time and energy being spent on Congress on funding resolutions is detracting from other legislation that are CU priorities, such as regulatory relief.
The House measure extends funding for the National Flood Insurance Program for six weeks, would fund the military until the end of the fiscal year (Sept. 30) and provides two years of funding for community health centers.
The current government funding measure, which was agreed to after a three-day government shutdown last month, expires at midnight Thursday.
The Senate Is expected to take up the House bill today and likely change it, requiring it to go back to the House for further action, with Thursday’s deadline looming to get a finished bill to President Trump for his signature.
