WASHINGTON—The House Judiciary Committee Thursday approved H.R. 9, the "Innovation Act,” legislation aimed at combatting abuse by patent assertion entities.
NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger applauded the bipartisan approval, led by Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA.) and Ranking Member John Conyers (D-MI).
"The healthy debate at the markup shows that the committee members recognize the pressing need for patent reform,” said Berger in a statement. “While we are pleased that the legislation will prevent some egregious behavior, we hope the House will come together to provide relief from demand letters and ensure more opportunities to challenge low-quality patents."
H.R. 9 is now headed to the House for consideration.
