SPOKANE, Wash.–Horizon Credit Union will be closing its branches at noon Pacific Time today so that its employees may participate in more than 20 “festive outdoor window parades” at senior care facilities.
In addition, employees will also be making more than 5,000 cards of encouragement for local seniors who have been isolated during the COVID-19 pandemic. The cards will be delivered to care facilities in four different states and window parades will start in the late afternoon, the credit union said.
The effort is part of the third annual “Go. Give. Grow.” company-wide community service day at Horizon CU. The credit union said the event is designed to harness the power of Horizon's employee team to make an impact in the community all at once.
This year’s event will be larger than previous efforts following a merger with Icon Credit Union in Boise, Idaho. As a result, more than 350 employees in Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Montana will be participating.
“It’s very important for us to keep the Go. Give. Grow. tradition going especially during the pandemic, because as a credit union, we’re here for our members and our communities through thick and thin, said VP-Marketing Brian Grytdal. “If we can be a shining light in part of their day, if we can be the ones that let them know that they’re thought of and loved, then this day will be a success.”
Festive Signs, Kazoos
The parades at the senior care facilities will take place later this afternoon, with the times varying by locations. Horizons CU said all parades will be safely social-distanced and will take place outside for the residents to view through the windows from the inside their rooms. They will include various combinations of balloons, festive signs, kazoos, dogs, classic cars and a healthy dose of good cheer” at 23 different locations, HCU said.
