‘Hey, It’s Your Credit Union. Click on This Link.’ No, It’s Not, Warns New Video in Maine

WESTBROOK, Maine–Maine’s credit unions have created a new video in response to a wave of fraud and attempted fraud against members.

In particular, the Maine Credit Union League noted the ongoing prevalence of online and phone-related fraud in which scammers pose as financial institutions.

“To help members safeguard themselves against financial exploitation, Maine Credit Unions recently created a new Member Moment video highlighting what information a credit union will not call them and ask for,” the MCUL noted. “Examples include passwords, PINs, Social Security numbers, and more.”

The league is urging credit unions to embed the video on their website and to distribute via social media channels to help members avoid falling victim to a scam if they ever receive a call from a fraudster masquerading as a representative from a credit union.

The video can be viewed here.
