LOS ANGELES–Credit unions will be paying attention to a special election to fill a congressional seat here today.
The election is to fill a vacancy representing the 34th congressional district of California created when Democrat Xavier Becerra was appointed as California’s attorney general. Democrats Jimmy Gomez and Robert Lee Ahn were the top two vote-getters in a primary field of 23 candidates and advanced to the general election.
The Credit Union Legislative Action Committee (CULAC) and the California CU League are backing Gomez and have provided $10,000 in donations to his race, according to Trey Hawkins, CUNA’s VP of Political Affairs. Gomez currently represents District 51 in the California State Assembly.
