Here’s What Credit Unions are Watching in Congress This Week

WASHINGTON–Congress has scheduled several hearings of interest to credit unions this week.

While CUs are primarily interested in progress of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and language that would give banks equal access to military bases as credit unions, as CUToday.info reported here, credit unions are also watching:

Tuesday

  • The Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs will hold a hearing “Examining Facebook’s Proposed Digital Currency and Data Privacy Considerations.”

Wednesday

  • The Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs will hold a hearing on “Economic Mobility: Is the American Dream in Crisis?”
  • The House Financial Services Committee on Tuesday will hold the same hearing on Facebook held by the Senate.
  • The Senate Committee on Aging will hold a hearing titled, “Combatting Robocall Fraud: Using Telecom Advances and Law Enforcement to Stop Scammers and Protect Seniors”

The House this week is also focused on mark-up of numerous bills of interest to credit unions.
