Here are the Hearings Being Watched This Week

WASHINGTON—With both the Senate and House back in session this week following the August recess, CUNA and NAFCU said they are following several hearings of interest to credit unions.

“The House and Senate are back from their states and districts,” noted Eli Joseph, CUNA deputy chief advocacy officer. “The House has a number of pieces of legislation they intend to consider. The Senate this week will also consider a number of executive branch nominations, and is also expected to begin the appropriations process.”

Key hearings CUNA and NAFCU will be following:

  • Tuesday: The Senate Banking Hearing will discuss next steps in housing finance reform now that the Treasury Department and Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) have released their plans. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, HUD Secretary Ben Carson, and FHFA Director Mark Calabria are set to testify
  • Tuesday: The House Financial Services Committee will hold a hearing on protecting student borrowers and holding student loan services accountable
  • Tuesday: The Joint Economic Committee will discuss was to ensure Americans can afford to raise a family
  • Thursday: The House Financial Services Committee's Task Force on Artificial Intelligence will explore the future of financial services
