WASHINGTON–Primaries will take place in four states today, with credit unions and their PAC contributions particularly focused on five races in two states.
Primaries will take place in Maine, North Dakota, Nevada and South Carolina. CUNA Deputy Chief Advocacy Officer for Political Action Trey Hawkins said the Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC) has provided financial support to 16 candidates in today’s races.
Credit union supporters who are in contested primaries today that Hawkins said credit unions will be watching include:
- Nevada District 1: Credit unions are supporting Rep. Dina Titus (R)
- Nevada District 2: Credit unions are backing Rep. Mark Amodei (R)
- Nevada District 3: Credit unions are supporting Rep. Susie Lee (D). Hawkins said CUNA will also be “watching closely” who emerges from the Republican primary to challenge Lee
- South Carolina 1: CULAC is backing Rep. Nancy Mace (R)
- South Carolina 2: Credit unions are behind Rep. Tom Rice (R-SC), who is facing a competitive challenge from State Rep. Russell Fry
Hawkins said CULAC has supported 180 candidates to date in the current election cycle and has a 99% success rate in the candidates to whom it has provided support.
