Hawaii State FCU Officially Opens New Headquarters in Building With Numerous Unique Amenities

HONOLULU —Hawaii State FCU has officially opened its new headquarters in downtown Honolulu in a building that offers a number of unique amenities.

The renovated 10-story building, which includes 70,000 square-feet of office space, will consolidate more than 240 credit union employees across multiple office locations, including its former headquarters of more than 40 years located at 560 Halekauwila Street, according to the credit union.

“The opening of Hawaii State FCU’s new headquarters is a historic milestone for our credit union and is a representation of our continued growth,” said Andrew Rosen, president and CEO of Hawaii State FCU. “The building itself has a long history in Hawaii and it is conveniently located near our core field of membership in the Downtown Honolulu area. We are very excited for this opportunity that will allow us to expand our offerings to our members while creating a new home for our employees.”

Hawaii State FCU said its new headquarters is designed to prioritize health, wellness, collaboration and innovation.

‘Wellness Floor’

The 10-story building has 70,000 square-feet of office space and an 80,000 square-foot adjacent parking garage, and features eight employee work floors, including an executive floor and a wellness floor that features a fitness center and privacy rooms for nursing mothers.

In addition, the 10th floor features a kitchen, breakroom, and a rooftop gathering space with panoramic views of the Downtown Honolulu skyline. The grand lobby is accented by a 112-square-foot living plant wall and will soon feature Hawaii State FCU’s new headquarters branch, which is slated to open in August 2023.

‘Collaborative Environment’

“With the design of the new headquarters, the credit union set out to create a collaborative working environment that encourages productivity and innovation,” Hawaii State FCU said. “While all work floors feature individual work stations and offices, the building’s floor plans offer numerous opportunities for alternate seating options to provide the flexibility for employees to work anywhere in the building that aligns with their own comfort level.”

HSFCU said collaborative workspaces can be found throughout the building, including five flex rooms that can be used for anything from training sessions and strategy meetings to yoga classes and baby showers, as well as several lounge spaces like the RED Lounge, an acronym for Relax. Eat. Drink.

Lounge 1936 which showcases historic photos and artifacts dating back to Hawaii State FCU’s founding in 1936.

In addition, a first-of-its-kind simulated branch that features the latest in-branch technology, such as Interactive Teller Machines (ITMs) and digital touchscreen engagement tables, is available to employees for training purposes and to test new financial services technologies, according to Hawaii State FCU.

Health and Wellness

Hawaii State said the new headquarters features many building systems and operational protocols to create a “safe and comfortable” environment for its employees, including a state-of-the-art HVAC system with MERV 13 filtration to reduce the spread of viruses like COVID-19, and UVC light technology to improve air quality.

“As an added convenience, a CALM Lounge, an acronym for Cleanse. Awaken. Lounge. Meet., is located on every floor upon entrance to welcome employees with the calming sound of trickling water, provide coffee amenities, and offer a convenient hand washing experience to cleanse before transitioning into their work area,” HSFCU said.

Additionally, all workstations include ergonomic chairs, powered sit-stand desks, adjustable dual monitor arms, and are centered around six-foot furniture modules to allow for proper social distancing.

“Hawai‘i State FCU challenged our team to create healthy spaces that would not only allow team members to be comfortable, safe and productive, but be a place that they WANT to be in,” said Phil Camp, principal of Hawai‘i Architecture LLP. “True to their core values, the best spaces, best views and best amenities are dedicated to their team. The finished product is a direct embodiment of Hawaii State FCU’s ‘Always Right By You’ mantra.”

About the Building

Hawaii State FCU purchased the former Melim building in July 2020 and underwent a multi-million dollar retrofit to consolidate more than 240 employees across multiple office locations.

“We’re thankful for the partnerships we’ve built with these reputable companies and I’m thankful to them for helping us make our vision for Hawaii State FCU’s new headquarters a reality,” added Rosen. “We first embarked on our new headquarters journey at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, which understandably, provided some challenges. I’m proud of our team for all of their hard work over the past three years and I’m looking forward to our continued growth as an organization.”
