Hawaii State FCU Announces Plan to Transform Downtown Headquarters

HONOLULU —Hawaii State FCU has announced plans to begin an extensive renovation of its new headquarters in downtown Honolulu at 333 Queen St.

The transformation of the former Melim Building, which includes a 70,000 square-foot office building and 80,000 square-foot adjacent parking garage, is slated for completion in summer 2022, the credit union said.

“As our credit union continues to grow, our goal is to consolidate our headquarters into a larger space with a new branch that is conveniently located near our core field of membership in the downtown Honolulu and civic center area,” said Andrew Rosen, president and CEO of Hawaii State FCU. “The purchase and building design process started at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Our new headquarters will be designed to prioritize health, wellness, collaboration and innovation and we look forward to creating an invigorating new workplace for our employees.”

Employees to be Consolidated

Hawaii State FCU purchased the building in July 2020 and said it plans to consolidate more than 250 employees across multiple office locations. The new headquarters will feature many building systems and operational protocols to create a safe and comfortable environment for its employees, including a state-of-the-art HVAC system with MERV 13 filtration and UVC light technology, handwashing “wellness zones” located on every floor, six-foot furniture modules to allow for workspace distancing, fitness center, privacy rooms for nursing mothers, and more.

Technology Driven HQ

The $2.1-billion Hawaii State said the new headquarters will be technology-driven and will include a new branch on the first floor of the 10-story building to provide convenient access for members located in the downtown and civic center area of Honolulu. Hawaii State FCU’s current headquarters of more than 40 years is located at 560 Halekauwila Street.

Nordic PCL Construction, Inc. is general contractor and Hiarchy LLP the architect.

The 120,000-member credit union is offering updates on the new building here.
