LAHAINA, Hawaii.– The Hawaii Credit Union League has made a $10,000 donation to begin assistance to victims of the wildfires on Maui and is in discussions over what it can additionally do to help credit unions, members and the community.
More than 50 deaths have been attributed to the wind-driven fires, more than 14,000 people have been moved off the island, and more than 1,500 buildings and counting have been damaged, especially in the area of Lahaina, which is the center of tourism on the island.
The league told CUToday.info that Maui County FCU and Valley Isle Community FCU have closed their Lahaina branches.
The Hawaii league said it is working with its Valley Isle Chapter to coordinate monetary donations. Monetary donations can be made to: “Valley Isle Chapter – HCUL” and sent to:
