Have Something to Say About Junk Fees? You Now Have More Time to Say It

WASHINGTON—The Federal Trade Commission has extended the deadline for comment on its request for input on junk fees and the “unfair or deceptive tactics companies use to impose them.” The proposal was originally made in October.

“Junk fees are unnecessary, unavoidable, or surprise charges that inflate costs while adding little to no value for consumers,” the FTC stated.

The notice announcing the initiative was published in the Federal Register on Nov. 8.  At the request of interested persons, the Commission has extended the public comment period until Feb. 8, 2023.

Information about how to submit comments can be found in the Federal Register notice.
