Guardians CU Names New CEO (Who is Known to Many) to Succeed the Retiring John Deese

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.–Guardians Credit Union has named a new president and CEO to replace the retiring John Deese, who is exiting after 44 years with Guardians CU. The $302.4-million credit union has selected Steve Bosack to lead the organization effective April 3.

Steve Bosack

Bosack has spent the last seven years as chief of staff at the $36-billion Pentagon Federal Credit Union (PenFed) in Virginia. “He was actively involved in communications for 3,600 employees, advocating for credit unions with regulators and lawmakers, and building partnerships with local communities,” Guardians said.

Prior to that, Bosack served as senior policy advisor to NCUA board member Debbie Matz before being named chief of staff when Matz became chairman of the agency.

“In the decade Bosack devoted to NCUA, he was instrumental in inspiring credit union leaders to connect with diverse members in new markets, managed external and internal relations for the agency chairman, worked with the SBA to promote government-guaranteed business loans to credit unions, and oversaw the leadership of a staff of 1,200,” Guardians Credit Union said.

Three Decades in Credit Unions

Bosack has a 33-year history in credit unions, beginning in the credit union trade press before being named VP-publilc relations and information services with CUNA, where he spent a decade. He later served as deputy director of the  National Credit Union Foundation, where he helped establish the first national online disaster relief fundraising center for credit unions and helped secure funding for BizKid$, the first nationally syndicated financial education TV series underwritten by credit unions.

Bosack called his new role “an honor,” adding, "John Deese has been a good friend and a great mentor ever since he helped introduce me to credit unions 33 years ago. It is my privilege to help carry on the legacy John built with the dedicated board of directors and employees at Guardians Credit Union.”
