Groups, Including Credit Unions, Call on FTC to Address Concerns Around Robotexts

WASHINGTON—The Federal Trade Commission is being urged to address a variety of concerns on its draft order and notice of proposed rulemaking on revocation of consent for robotexts.

The request was made in a letter sent by a coalition of trade groups that include America’s Credit Unions.

In the letter the organizations expressed support for the FCC’s decision to extend the processing time for revocation from 24 hours to “as soon as practicable,” but no more than 10 business days, but urged the commission to require consumers that use non-standard revocation prove the method was “reasonable” if there is a dispute.

Additional Request

In addition, the group called on the FCC to verify that revocation will not be presumed to extend to specified informational messages such as fraud alerts, breach notifications, and more. The organizations further requested the commission replace the five-minute response rule with a requirement to respond within the next business day.
