MACON, Ga. — Organizers seeking to charter a credit union here say they are making progress. The Kingdom Life Church and several other community partners are
seeking to launch the credit union to serve the East Macon Community.
The church told WMAZ it has been “pre-approved” by regulators to continue in its efforts to get the new CU off the ground.
The pastor of Kingdom Life, Dominique Johnson, told WMAZ the vision has been a long time coming, and he's excited for this resource to someday help the community grow.
"We will use this credit union as a tool of education and empowerment,” Johnson was quoted as saying. “We're definitely not in competition with other banks, we just want to fill a gap for the 'unbanked' and underserved, so that's what we really want to do, we want to use it as a tool of empowerment.”
Officials expect the chartering process to take another 18 months.
