Grinch Now Uses A Skimmer As Members Are Victimized Over Christmas

NEWARK, N.J.–It wasn’t a happy holiday for nine members of Louviers FCU here who were victims of fraud after a skimming device was placed on an ATM outside the credit union’s South Main Street office on or around Christmas Day.

The credit union and police are now seeking help from the public in identifying the woman seen in surveillance footage installing the device.

Members began contacting Louviers FCU on Dec. 27 reporting unauthorized transactions, Newark Police Dept. spokesperson Fred Nelson told NewarkPostOnline.com. That led the credit union to check surveillance video, where footage showed a woman placing a skimming device on the drive-thru ATM at 10:40 p.m. Dec. 23 and then removing it at 7:45 p.m. Dec. 24.

Using stolen debit card information, the woman made $7,673.50 in purchases at convenience stores, according to NewarkPostOnline.com.
