Grasslands FCU Using NCUA Grant to Help Feed Local School Kids

CIRCLE, Mont.– Grasslands Federal Credit Union (Grasslands FCU) said it is using a $10,000 COVID-19 Emergency Fund it has been awarded by NCUA to fund its Emergency Grant Project.

The credit union noted local students in the communities that Grasslands FCU serves have been out of school for more than three weeks, and are looking at an additional three weeks or more.

“These schools have been working hard to provide meals for the students who would normally depend on school lunches for their daily meals, but the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting response have created an unprecedented need for basic necessities like food,” Grasslands FCU said. “Schools have lost funds due to the cancellation of activities and the increased cost of attempting to provide curriculum virtually.”

Grasslands FCU said its goal is lighten the schools’ financial strain of providing these much-needed “take-out” meals.

‘Unsettling Time’

“This is an unsettling time for everyone,” said Emily Guldborg, manager and CEO of Grasslands FCU. “This is a time where people are needing help more than ever, and “People Helping People” is the

The Credit Union Philosophy. We want our communities to know that we are working diligently to provide options to ease the financial stress caused by this pandemic and make sure that hungry mouths are fed and schools are supported. We want our communities to have the best possible chance for success.”

GFCU said it will analyze membership by zip code to identify the population density of members under the age of 18. It will then distribute funds in an equitable manner according to those figures.
