MILLCREEK, Utah–Lynn R. Kuehne, president and CEO of Granite Credit Union here, has announced plans to retire effective Oct. 1, 2021. The credit union has named Mark L. Young as Kuehne’s successor.
Kuehne began in credit unions as a member of the Supervisory Committee of Utah CV Credit Union (now Utah First) in 1968, before being named president of that credit union, which was founded to serve the German community, for 19 years.
In 1992, Kuehne joined the Utah Credit Union Association and was named executive vice president in 1997 and continued in that role until 2009.
“He was a leading voice in advocating for credit unions on both the local and national levels,” Granite CU said.
During this time, he was also a founding member of the Credit Union Service Centers of Utah and served as the resident of that organization from 1993 until 2009.
In 2009, Kuehne was named president/CEO of Granite Credit Union and during his tenure oversaw asset growth from $336 million to more than $680 million.
In 2018, Kuehne was inducted into the Credit Union House Hall of Leaders in Washington.
“Mr. Kuehne has been an influential voice promoting the credit union movement throughout his career,” the credit union said in a statement. “From designing early computer software to serving as a board member for the Utah League of Credit Unions and Utah Corporate Central Credit Union, to being a 2000 candidate for State Senate District 23, Kuehne’s impact and influence is widely respected in the credit union industry and members of any Utah Credit Union have benefitted from his years of service.”
The New CEO
Kuehne’s successor, Mark L. Young, has more than 25 years of credit union senior level management experience, most recently has been serving as the VP-human relations for Granite Credit Union.
Young’s Credit Union career began in 1995 when he joined Utah Central Credit Union as human resources director and compliance officer, before being named EVP in 2003.
Granite Credit Union has eight branches and more than 31,000 members.
