MANCHESTER, N.H.–A grand opening ceremony will be held here today for the CUNA Research Center and Ensweiler Research Library at America’s Credit Union Museum.
The Ensweiler Research Library has been named in honor of Dick Ensweiler, the long-time credit union association leader who most recently retired from the Cornerstone Credit Union League.
CUToday.info will be on hand to provide coverage.
Ceremonies will begin at 3:30 p.m. ET with comments from Mike L'Ecuyer, president and CEO of Bellwether Community Credit Union and chair of the board of directors for the museum, in addition to Jim Nussle, President/CEO of CUNA.
“We are excited to unveil the CUNA Research Center and Ensweiler Research Library at American’s Credit Union Museum,” said Nussle in a statement. “This is a historical moment for the credit union movement and we greatly appreciate the support, contributions and efforts throughout the Legacy Campaign. It’s great to see our heritage being shaped in a new way by making credit union information more accessible.”
The opening of the new facilities follows the museum’s Legacy Campaign, a three-year capital campaign with a goal of raising $3.3-million to create a new industry research center, expand exhibit space and provide renovations to the existing building.
“We are grateful for all the partnerships that have allowed us tell the story of the history, heritage and values of credit unions, and the difference they make in the financial marketplace,” said Stephanie Smith, executive director of the museum.
According to the museum, the physical and electronic industry research center will make credit union history more accessible, while the additional exhibit space and upgraded conference facilities will enable credit union professionals, legislators and citizens to “experience firsthand the unique role credit unions play in the marketplace.”
America’s Credit Union Museum is located in the home from which the first credit union in the United States, St. Mary’s Bank, began operating in 1908.
