SALEM, Ore.–The governors of two states are appearing in separate videos extolling the benefits of credit unions during the coronavirus pandemic.
In Oregon, Gov. Kate Brown appears in a 1:15 video on behalf of the Northwest Credit Union Association in which she discusses the hardships created by the pandemic.
“Every day, you, the more than 5,000 credit union employees in Oregon, are here for your two-million members, supporting their financial well-being. Not-for-profit, cooperative credit unions were born during tough times in the Great Depression. You may not have known it when this all started, but you are built for this.”
Brown discusses efforts by CUs to help businesses get PPP loans, support financial education, and helping in communities.
“You are living your people helping people mission. We are all in this together, and we will come out of this together,” says Brown. “Thank you, Oregon credit unions.”

Arkansas Governor Extols CUs
Separately, Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson appears in a 1:12 video in a message distributed by Arkansas’ credit unions, which are represented by the Cornerstone Credit Union League.
“In the midst of difficult times, Arkansans always find a way to help their neighbors in need. It’s people helping people, which just so happens to be the motto of Arkansas’ credit unions. As you know, the need for many at the moment is financial, and our credit unions are assisting Arkansans with that very need in communities all across the state…But it’s not just financial. Credit unions are hosting community food drives and providing meals to first responders. Some employees even spent hours on the phone with members offering encouragement and prayers during this unprecedented time. People helping people. It’s not just a model for Arkansas credit unions, it’s their priority.”
