GoFundMe Page Launched for Former CUNA Mutual Union Steward

MADISON, Wis.–A GoFundMe page has been launched to raise funds for Joe Evica, the chief steward for Office and Professionals Employees International Union Local 39 Chief Steward Joe Evica, who had been leading a labor action against CUNA Mutual Group but who has been terminated by the company.

As CUToday.info reported earlier, OPEIU 39 and CUNA Mutual have been negotiating a successor labor agreement since early 2022, after the previous collective bargaining agreement expired March 31, 2022. But as CUToday.info further reported here, on March 14 CMG placed Evica on paid suspension and then later terminated him for alleged “misuse of company information,” with the union stating the discipline directed at Evica is “retaliation for his union activities and role as a leader.”

CUNA Mutual has rejected that characterization and said it remains committed to “swiftly reaching a fair and competitive agreement that benefits our employees.”

‘Working Diligently’
OPEIU Local 39 represents approximately 450 CUNA Mutual employees.

“Joe has committed to keep working diligently and in solidarity with his coworkers to fight the unfair labor practices of the company. Thank you for any help you can offer to help him pay his bills and support his family,” the union said.
