MADISON, Wis.–The World Council of Credit Unions’ Global Women’s Leadership Network (GWLN) is calling on credit unions from around the globe to advocate that “an equal world is an enabled world” by encouraging industry women to apply for a 2020 GWLN Scholarship beginning on International Women’s Day.
WOCCU said successful candidates will participate in World Council's 2020 World Moving – A Joint Credit Union Conference to receive education and expand their professional networks. Scholarship recipients will participate in the GWLN Forum, breakout sessions and a GWLN fundraising reception, and meet with conference attendees, scholarship supporters, GWLN members and international Sister Society leaders.
Scholarship applications are due April 8.
“Our GWLN scholarship program helps credit union women embrace this year’s International Women’s Day theme of #EachforEqual—by allowing them to work toward building a gender equal world,” said Lena Giakoumopoulos, GWLN Program Director. “Recipients develop new skills, tools and resources to promote advancement opportunities for themselves, and to empower women in their credit unions and communities.”
What Recipients Receive
GWLN scholarship recipients will be announced May 1, and each will receive
- A complimentary one-year membership to the Global Women’s Leadership Network
- A complimentary registration and an all-expense paid trip to the Joint Credit Union Conference in Los Angeles

GWLN awarded six scholarships in 2019 and plans to award another four to six in 2020. Since 2009, GWLN has awarded 57 scholarships to women from 23 countries.
WOCCU said scholarships are made possible through funding from annual membership donations and sponsorships, including the generous support of CUNA Mutual Group, CU Direct, PSCU and the Susan Adams Scholarship Fund supported by One AZ Credit Union.
