KAILUA, Hawaii–Hawaii Community FCU said it believes it has now resolved all issues after tech glitches caused many of its members to see thousands of dollars disappear from their accounts.
Hawaii Community FCU on the Big Island said it began hearing from members on July 9 that they were double-charged for automated or electronic payments, including one small business’ entire payroll, according to Hawaii News Now, adding that that some members didn’t get the money they expected on this payday.
Not surprisingly, the concerns “exploded on social media,” Hawaii News Now said., with some members heading to branches for answers.
“But our branch manager let us know that we will be giving the money back. And I was like, I hope so,” one member told Hawaii News Now…It just has been kind of alarming.”
Clearinghouse Issue Cited
By July 10, Hawaii Community FCU had issued a statement citing an issue with their “mainland electronic payment clearinghouse and reversing the errors was delayed by personnel and time zone issues,” according to the report.
The credit union pledged to waive or reimburse any fees or penalties caused by the inconvenience, the report added.
