MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — Paul Gentile, president of the Cooperative Credit Union Association, is leaving the organization to become president/CEO of Merck Employees FCU in Rahway, N.J.
Gentile has served as the CCUA’s president/CEO for approximately five years, during which the Massachusetts Credit Union League, the New Hampshire Credit Union League and the Credit Unions of Rhode Island formerly merged to create the Cooperative Credit Union Association. In 2016, the Delaware Credit Union League merged into the Association.
“Our model stays true to the ‘local control’ tenet of cooperatives,” said Gentile in a statement. “While we have the power and scale that comes from having four states aggregated under one umbrella, in each of our states the credit unions are branded under their own state banner and drive the agenda for advocacy and charitable giving on the local level. It ensures that all credit unions have a strong voice and it helps guide our engagement efforts in the individual states.”
In a statement, CCUA Chair Ellen Ford, CEO of Peoples Credit Union in Middletown, R.I., said the association is well positioned for continued success.
“We wish Paul only the best and thank him for his tremendous contributions to our success,” said Ford.
Ford said the CCUA will launch a national search for a successor.
Prior to joining the Cooperative CU Association, Gentile was EVP with CUNA, and prior to that, president of the New Jersey CU League.
