BUTTE, Mont. —The $700-million Frontier Credit Union has completed its purchase of $75-million First Citizens Bank of Butte, finalizing the transaction on Feb. 1 and converting the bank’s customers into Frontier members.
The deal, first reported by CUToday.info in May 2025, marks a milestone for both organizations and represents the first time a credit union has fully acquired a bank in the state of Montana. The Butte branch will remain open, and customers can continue using their existing accounts as the systems conversion and full integration proceed through August, the CU said.
Frontier said the acquisition will broaden local access to its financial products and technology, including expanded mortgage and auto lending options, credit cards, and enhanced digital services, while preserving the community-banking relationships First Citizens customers have long relied on.
