ROYAL OAK, Mich.—Steve Van Beek, well-known attorney and counselor with Howard & Howard here, has died. Mr. Van Beek passed away last week unexpectedly at the age of 39.
Prior to joining Howard & Howard, Mr. Van Beek worked at NAFCU as VP of regulatory compliance.
Mr. Van Beek’s family said donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
“Steve was best in class in the compliance area, respected nationally as an absolute expert,” said Michael Bell, co-chair of the Financial Institutions Practice Group at Honigman, LLP.
Bell worked with Mr. Van Beek at Howard & Howard, before moving on to Honigman in 2020. “His expertise will live on as he trained many regulators and provided endless tools to general counsels across the country. Our industry is better off from his guidance and counsel.”
Anthony Demangone, EVP and COO at NAFCU, added, “We are saddened by the news of Steve’s passing. While he was at NAFCU, Steve provided top-notch support and guidance on regulatory compliance to our credit union members. Many credit unions continued to rely on his counsel for his expertise on the regulatory landscape. He will be greatly missed.”
