ARLINGTON. Va.—Jim Mills, former chairman of NAFCU, has died at the age of 72.
Mr. Mills passed away Dec. 12.
“Jim Mills was an exceptional leader and dedicated credit union advocate,” said NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger. “Throughout his term on the board and as chair, he helped us advance credit unions and accomplish the 1998 Credit Union Membership Access Act, landmark legislation that preserved multiple-group charters for federal credit unions. Jim’s contribution to the industry and this association will be long remembered, and he will be missed. NAFCU is grateful for his service.”
Mills was elected to the NAFCU board in 1997 as Region IV director, and he served until 2003, the last three years as chair.
Mr. Mills attended college at Kentucky Wesleyan obtaining his bachelor's degree in accounting. He then went to work for NCUA as an examiner for 19 years. Mr. Mills then became president/CEO of 3 Rivers Federal Credit Union for 19 years, retiring in 2004.
