SANTA PAULA, Calif.–A former manager of a credit union has been charged with stealing more than a quarter-million dollars from the credit union over a period of three years.
Tina Louise Torres, 54, has been charged with 17 felony counts of grand theft and eight felony counts of making, forging and altering documents related to her role as manager of the former Limoneira FCU, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
The credit union is now part of the $5.5-milion Valley Agricultural FCU.
“While employed, Torres used her position of trust to embezzle money and forge documents to defraud Limoneira Federal Credit Union,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Investigators said they believe Torres stole more than $250,000 from the credit union between Jan. 2016 and Aug. 2019, when her theft was discovered by a company audit and her employment was terminated.
The investigation was conducted by VCSO’s Major Crimes – Financial Crimes Unit.
