WASHINGTON–Former Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz, (R-TX) and Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD) have become the latest to be added to the list of speakers confirmed for NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus, which is set for Sept. 18-21 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill.
NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus, which it describes as its lobbying event of the year, brings hundreds of credit union leaders to Washington to talk about the industry’s vital issues, visit with lawmakers on Capitol Hill and hear from prominent congressional and financial industry leaders.
In addition to being a candidate for the Republican nomination, Cruz also recently was among 70 senators who wrote CFPB in July to urge more regulatory relief for credit unions under the Bureau’s exemption authority. He chairs the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Oversight, Agency Action, Federal Rights and Federal Courts and the Commerce Subcommittee on Space, Science and Competitiveness. Cruz also serves on the Joint Economic Committee, the Armed Services Committee and the Committee on Rules and Administration.
Rounds is a member of the Senate Banking Committee. Rounds also authored the NAFCU-backed legislation, “Taking Account of Institutions with Low Operation Risk (TAILOR) Act,” which would require that rules be tailored to fit financial institutions’ business models and risk profiles. He is the co-founder of the Senate Payments Innovation Caucus, which explores technologies in the payments industry and addresses issues concerning data security, consumer protection and electronic payments.
Among other recent additions are House Financial Services Committee Ranking Member Maxine Waters (D-CA); Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE); House Financial Services Subcommittee Chairman Randy Neugebauer (R-TX), and Rep. French Hill (R-AR).
