Former Credit Card Fraud Investigator Arrested For, Well, Guess

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.–A former credit card fraud investigator with PSCU has been arrested here for stealing credit card information from CU members. According to St. Petersburg Police, Reynaldo Colon, 26, was arrested for crimes allegedly committed in the fall of 2014 while working at PSCU.

"(Detectives) uncovered 21 stolen card numbers" SPPD spokesperson Rick Shaw told ABCActionNews.com. "A loss of about $13,000 had incurred."

Arrest documents state that when CU members called Colon following what they suspected were suspicious purchases on their cards, he allegedly wrote those numbers down and put them into his cellphone, and then used the phone to make purchases.

Police said approximately 100 purchases were made, primarily at fast food restaurants.

In a statement to ABCActionNews, PSCU said, “ ...our sophisticated internal security fraud detection measures worked as designed to protect against aberrant behavior. We were able to quickly identify an issue before it escalated and turned it over to law enforcement. PSCU worked with its credit union member-owners to ensure that their cardholders were protected and made whole."

PSCU reportedly fired Shaw in November of 2014, but he was then able to get a job at Chase Bank, where he was said to be employed at the time of his arrest.
