Former Chair of Senate Finance Committee Accused Of Embezzling From CU

JACKSON, Miss.—The former chairman of the Mississippi Senate Finance Committee has been accused of embezzling $484,092 in loan proceeds from Singing River FCU.

Mississippi’s State Auditor, Stacy Pickering, said that former State Sen. Tommy Robertson kept the loan proceeds in trust for the purpose of distributing the funds in accordance with the applicable loan statements. According to Pickering, the embezzlement allegedly occurred in April of 2013 while Robertson, 59, was board attorney for the credit union. Robertson surrendered himself to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and was released on $50,000 bond.
