RICHMOND, Maine–A former employee of a credit union here has been charged with two counts of theft and one of forgery, all of which are felonies.
According to Richmond (Maine) Police, Clarissa Hurley, 50, a former employee of Down East Credit Union, allegedly stole more than $8,500 from two credit union members’ accounts.
Police said they were contacted in late 2016 by the credit union about a possible theft at the CU. Following an internal audit, the information uncovered was shared with police. The police investigation led to charges against Hurley.
Hurley allegedly forged documents to commit the theft.
Police said it was a teller at a different branch who overheard a conversation between two members who did the initial research and who shared her findings related to the alleged theft with her supervisor.
