Former CEO of Baltimore CU Pleads Guilty to Embezzlement

TOWSON, Md.–The former CEO of a Towson credit union pleaded guilty in Baltimore County Circuit Court to embezzling more than $100,000 from the financial institution.

Tina Galloway, 44, the former manager of HealthCare United FCU, which serves employees of the Greater Baltimore Medical Center and Sheppard Pratt Hospital, admitted to stealing over $100,000 from the CU.

In September, Galloway and her husband, Baltimore County Police Sgt. Daniel Galloway, were both charged in the case. The 18-year department veteran was suspended without pay because of the allegations.

According to investigators, Tina Galloway falsified records and issued checks to herself that were supposed to be for bank expenses. Detectives told the Baltimore Sun they believe Daniel Galloway knew of some of his wife's activities and conspired to defraud the credit union. They also say they discovered discrepancies in credit union loans to the Galloways.

Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 4. Under a plea agreement, the state plans to seek a five-year sentence, suspending all but one year. The first 30 days would be served in the county detention center and the remainder would be served on home detention, the Baltimore Sun reported.
